In many ductless HVAC systems, multiple indoor units (like mini-splits) share a single outdoor unit. While each indoor unit can be controlled independently, they all depend on the same compressor housed in the outdoor unit to move heat in or out of your home.
The issue?
The compressor can’t heat and cool at the same time. If one indoor unit is set to Cooling and another to Heating, the system receives contradictory instructions. It doesn’t know whether to absorb heat from inside and push it outside (cooling), or do the reverse (heating). This is what we call a mode conflict.
